Hello ISMS families,

This is the first of what will be our regular newsletters for the ISMS community. In an effort to draw the groups together, I will be writing to inform you about what is going on, and collect your thoughts about the direction of the ISMS projects as well.

Pictures and Video

Regular pictures and video from rehearsals and concerts is available through our galleries / channel on vimeo (video) and flickr (pictures). We hope you enjoy the content, and if you have any queries about this method of storage and sharing, please come and talk to me. Links top right.

Visitors

We intend organising guest badges for family who wish to stay for the session (as do the other Saturday groups at ISCA). In the mean time, please let one of us know if you are staying during the sessions, so we are clear about the adults within the building.

What's Going on? > Brass Group

Currently they are playing some 'Junior Just Brass' pieces, in order to develop notational ability when in a group. They are also playing an arrangement of Billy Joel's 'The Piano Man' (View it above!) which they have learnt using aural techniques. Their pieces range from a variety of styles such as jazz, pop and classical.

What's Going on? > Junk Band

The junk band are exploring new directions at the moment. We have spent some time developing pieces based on samba calls and whistles, and are now trying out a new piece using the idea of 'copy-cat' playing! They are also exploring dynamics and tempo to become more skilled and sympathetic to the group.

What's Going on? > Keyboard Group

Keyboard 'group' (!) are exploring bass clef and notation, whilst practicing pieces they love. They really need more children to keep the group interesting and lively!

Communication

Lastly, the recent weather chaos has proven our need for urgent communication methods. Aside from our regular e-newsletters, urgent closures, disruptions or changes will be announced using our twitter feed, available on twitter here, or via our website. You can also contact me direct when necessary, by phone: 07540 56 52 56

best wishes,
Anthony Lees
