Instrument Construction PDF Print E-mail

IMG_0009IMG_0006Junk instruments by definition are usually things that are no longer wanted, due for recycling, or otherwise free. Whilst anyone can put together a junk instrument collection, in reality few of us have the time, space or tools to source, alter and construct a junk band collection, especially to the degree of safety needed to use them with children and in schools.

Anthony Lees will source and construct junk band kits of any size, to suit your needs, garanteeing the use of safe materials from responsible sources, and constructed to professional standards.

Perhaps after a workshop, inset training or project you would like to start your own junk band? This could be the perfect hastle-free way to set up your own group!

Drums

IMG_0005

The base design is formed using a set of large plastic drums, joined by threading plastic pipes between each. On theses pipes are threaded smaller plastic drums.

The design allow for a modular approach, which can be raised or lowered for different height / physically impaired users, as well the addition of further parts later. Drums are threaded in different orientations to promote many different pitches when struck.

In addition, beaters are made from smaller plastic pipes, which are both safe and durable in use.

Because our kits are almost entirely plastic, they are very hard wearing, long lasting, LOUD, and an excellent second life for the materials that would have ended up somewhere else!

Tuned Instruments

The base tubes are formed from wide plastic tubes, cut to length to allow a tuned 5 note bass to be played, which is remarkably versitile in use. This is played using 'paddles' made from smaller tubes bolted to cut out 'faces' in a thick plastic also.
